Dear President-Elect and Future First lady:

Congratulations on your victory and making history as our new President! Your campaign has been hailed as the best run political campaign in American political history and we have great hope for your leadership. Your campaign promised diversity, creativity and innovation, and you are succeeding in attracting the best and brightest minds to address our nation’s problems and help us prepare for the future.

I believe in the American Dream. I started Girlstart to empower girls in math, science, engineering and technology in the living room of my apartment with $500 and a credit card when I was 26 years old. Since then we have served 16,000 girls families and teachers and are the only organization with institutional and historic knowledge of how to empower girls in these important areas.

I pride myself on working with the best and brightest minds in the non-profit community empowering girls in math, science and technology. I have a vision for Girl start that I want to share with you because we are concerned about the same challenges: the economy, education, innovation, and preparing the next generation of Americans to succeed in the global marketplace.

You are the proud parents of 7 year-old and 10 year-old daughters. My experience with and knowledge of this age group for girls is extensive and I would like to share some insights with you. Malia and Sasha are on the cusp of a time in their young lives when their interest and confidence in math, science and technology may be compromised. I started Girlstart for the sole purpose of empowering girls in these subjects at this critical time. I think it goes without saying that if we leave girls behind in these subjects it will have devastating effects on the very change your administration is committed to making.

You have prioritized making math and science education a national priority and have outlined promoting women in math and science in your agenda. I look forward to you and your administration bringing awareness to this issue. The truth remains that we, as a country, can only be successful if all of our citizens are empowered

You have called on all Americans to renew their sense of service to our great country. We need to pull together to create a vision of America that our children can be proud of.

As a non-profit leader, entrepreneur, working mom of twin toddlers, and as an American, please call on me as a resource on empowering girls.

Best Regards,

Rachel Muir
